Melanie Lavender

Our Story

McLeod’s Lavender, on the hilltop of 8 acres in Tenmile, Oregon, was founded in 2018 after owner Melanie McLeod discovered the healing properties of lavender. Melanie was born and raised in Queensland, Australia, and now grows Australian lavender cultivars in her fields.

She came from four generations of strong McLeod women who inspired her to live each day as her best self. At the age of 14, with the support of her mother, Melanie started her own business, which lit the entrepreneurial fire in her.

Melanie is a leader in non-profit management and fundraising, helping those most affected by adversity and abuse. The work can be heavy, and she realized she needed to focus on her own self-care. While visiting a lavender festival in Oregon, she felt rejuvenated, and the idea of McLeod’s Lavender was born.
Melanie runs her farm with her husband, Michael, and her adorable farm dogs. The vision is to create a treat for your senses using naturally grown lavender, specializing in culinary lavender and products that promote self-care and good health.

Melanie believes that lavender can create an opportunity for us to learn how to relax and practice mindfulness in our daily activities. You can transform your savory or sweet treats with McLeod’s culinary lavender. McLeod’s Lavender has become well known for their Lavender Shortbread, Lavender Pork Sausage, and Lavender Simple Syrup.

The Farm

As many of you know, I was born and raised in Australia. We are growing many cultivars, including two Australian cultivars, Egerton Blue and Riverina Alan, and some New Zealand cultivars.

The farm is located in the Umpqua Valley, Oregon, in wine country along I-5. The hillside is planted with lavender and buzzing with honeybees. The farm’s vineyard, planted with 99 vines, makes a beautiful backdrop in the summer as you enjoy the deck in the upper lavender gardens. The space is designed for small groups and events. Make an appointment to visit the farm during the lavender season or for U-pick event announcements.

The farm is a magical place for any photo shoot, especially when the lavender is in bloom from late June through early August. This is a stunning location for photographers or individuals to rent for photo sessions—maternity, engagement, couples, family, senior portraits, and even pets. The farm, which covers 8 acres, is set on a hillside with a small vineyard, large oak trees, and mountains in the background. You may capture an amazing sunrise or sunset.

Testimonials

Coco & Livi - Review

“We love McLeod’s Lavender Farm! The amount of love put into this farm is reflected in the quality of its products. We purchase dried lavender buds for our little business and always have peace of mind that we will receive high-quality products, which is extremely important as it is an ingredient used in many of our products. Excellent communication from a knowledgeable & friendly owner provides consistent customer satisfaction. Our family enjoys other lavender products at home…we add their ground lavender into our lemonade & love to sprinkle the lavender salt onto our popcorn on movie nights; delicious! We highly recommend you try McLeod’s Lavender products for yourself.”

Melanie is a gracious and welcoming host, kindly sharing her knowledge of lavender farming, the vineyard, and bees, and even letting us meet the sweet goats they keep!
